The Road to Thornhaven
Aaron, Lyra, and Silas leave the village at dawn to seek allies in Thornhaven. During their journey, they are ambushed by vampire scouts but manage to escape. Aaron struggles with the shadow's whispers, and the chapter ends with them discovering a hidden safe house where an old ally of Silas awaits.
Dawn came gray and cold. The village stirred as Aaron helped load supplies onto a pair of sturdy horses. Lyra checked her crossbow, her movements quick and practiced. Silas stood apart, studying the forest edge with an unreadable expression.
"Ready?" Lyra asked, slinging her bow over her shoulder.
Aaron nodded. He had barely slept after the encounter with the shadow figure. The voice still echoed in his mind: When you are ready, I will teach you the true power of the shadow.
