Chapter 5: The Crimson Court
Aaron, Lyra, and Silas prepare for the meeting with Kael. Aaron struggles to master his shadow hybrid powers and confronts Kael in a tense negotiation, but the arrival of a shadow demon forces a temporary alliance against a greater threat.
The morning sun crept through the trees, painting the village in shades of gold and amber. Aaron sat on the porch of the cabin, turning the shadow charm over in his hands. The cool stone seemed to pulse with a faint energy, as if it remembered its previous owner.
Lyra joined him, two cups of steaming tea in hand. She offered one, and he took it gratefully. "Couldn't sleep either?"
"Not really." He sipped the tea. It was bitter, but warm. "I keep thinking about what Silas said. The shadow demons are waking."
