Chapter 25
Chapter 25: The Mark Awakens
After rescuing Mira's father, Elara and the group return home. Mira's crescent mark begins to glow and speak with the ancient's voice, revealing that she is a chosen vessel. Elara uses her weakened bond and the fragment in her chest to negotiate a new pact, binding the ancient to the falls while giving it a voice through Mira. The chapter ends with the lantern fading and Elara realizing the bond is not broken but transformed.

The heartstone felt like a distant echo, the bond muted but not silent.
Maren led them through a side path, avoiding the main road. “The Council will seal the mill by morning. We need to be home before then.”
They reached the cottage—a small stone house at the edge of the woods, its windows glowing with warm candlelight. Seraphine helped Mira’s father to a chair by the fire, while Maren gathered herbs and bandages. Elara stood near the door, watching Mira. The crescent mark on her wrist seemed to shimmer in the dim light, catching the flames’ reflection.
