The first morning after the battle dawned soft and grey, the sun hidden behind a thin blanket of clouds. Elara stood at the edge of the falls, watching the water tumble over the rocks. It looked the same as always—silver and white, catching the light—but she could feel the difference beneath her skin. The entity pulsed in rhythm with her heartbeat, a steady, ancient presence that no longer felt foreign. It was part of her now, like a second breath.
Lyra found her there, carrying two cups of tea. She handed one to Elara without a word and stood beside her, their shoulders brushing. The steam curled up between them, warm and familiar.
“Are you going to stand here all day?” Lyra asked, her voice light.
