As Thorne attacks, Elara uses her new bond with the falls to speak directly to the entity fused with him. She offers it a choice: a true guardian who seeks balance, not domination. The entity listens, separates from Thorne, and binds itself to the falls through Elara's will. Thorne is left powerless and is captured by Silas and the neutral wizards. Elara becomes the permanent protector of the falls, but the entity warns that Thorne's ambition will not die easily. The chapter ends with Elara feeling the weight of her duty, yet surrounded by friends.
The black mist rose like a living thing, coiling around Thorne's body as he strode forward. The ground cracked beneath his feet, and the air grew thick and cold. Elara felt the falls singing behind her, a river of silver light waiting for her command. But she did not raise it yet. Something in her new senses whispered that brute force would not win this fight.
Thorne laughed, the sound layered with the entity's deep rumble. "You think a few hours of training changes anything? I have waited centuries for this. The falls cannot stop me now."
"It's not the falls you need to worry about," Elara said, her voice steady despite her racing heart. "It's me."
