The morning light crept through the curtains of Helena's study, casting long shadows across the polished desk. She had been awake for hours, her mind churning with plans and justifications. The house was quiet now, the servants moving about their duties in hushed tones. But Helena's thoughts were far from peaceful.

She stared at a photograph on her desk: Damien as a boy, laughing, his arms wrapped around her neck. The image was faded, but the love in his eyes was still vivid. And then there was Leo—her grandson, Damien's son. The boy had his father's smile, his father's stubborn chin. He was the last piece of Damien still alive, and Helena would do anything to protect him.

That was the root of it all, she admitted to herself. Not justice for Damien—though she told herself that was part of it—but the need to save Leo from Elara. The woman was weak, indecisive. She had never been good enough for Damien, and now, without him, she would raise that boy in a house of sorrow and failure. Leo deserved better. He deserved a family with values, with tradition. He deserved Helena.
