With the clock tickingSterling is released from jail, & urges the council to expedite the motion for dismissal so Elara can be freed. In the meantime Marcus tries to escape with Leo but Lina is one step ahead of him. At the prison camp, Elara wakes up in the infirmary with 11 stitches to her neck. Feeling hopeless she wonders if her fate is sealed and begins to lose her will to live
The infirmary lights buzzed overhead, a dull fluorescent hum that matched the throb in Elara’s neck. She tried to lift her hand to touch the wound, but her arm felt weighted, tethered by tubes and wires. A nurse appeared, her face a blur of professional detachment.
“You’re lucky,” the woman said, adjusting an IV drip. “Six more millimeters and you’d have bled out before anyone found you.”
Elara turned her head—slowly, carefully—and caught her reflection in the glass of a cabinet. A white bandage wrapped around her throat, stark against her grey skin. Her eyes were hollow, sunken, the eyes of a woman who had already given up.
