Elias and Tasha face Silas Vane and Tariq at the cliff's edge. Zahra reveals her true power as a guardian, creating a diversion that allows Tasha and Elias to escape down a hidden path. The obsidian stone pulsed in Tasha's hand, a warm, insistent beat against her palm that seemed to match the rhythm of her heart. Silas Vane's smile glinted in the moonlight, his pistol steady, his eyes fixed on the scroll she clutched to her chest. Behind him, Tariq stood like a shadow, his blade still wet, his face unreadable.
"I said, give it to me," Silas repeated, his voice smooth as silk over gravel.
Elias shifted, positioning himself between Tasha and the pistol. "You'll have to shoot me first."
