Chapter 7
Echoes of Laughter
As Maya chases Pip, she can’t help but feel a sense of amusement. The playful pursuit, meant to be an annoyance, turns into a shared moment of lighthearted fun.
The air in the sarcophagus, usually a still, velvety darkness, now buzzed with an unexpected energy. Maya, whose slumber had been as deep and undisturbed as the sands of time, found herself stirring. It wasn't the slow, graceful unfurling of linen bandages, but a sudden, insistent prickle. An itch. A tiny, maddening itch that defied the centuries of silence. She tried to ignore it, to sink back into the comforting oblivion of her eternal rest, but the sensation persisted, growing more insistent with each passing moment.

Curiosity, a trait that had never truly faded even in death, began to override her annoyance. She carefully extended a bandaged finger, probing the source of her discomfort.
And then, she saw it. A tiny, iridescent gleam. A minuscule, jewel-like form, no bigger than her thumbnail, was clinging to her arm. It was a scarab beetle, its shell a mosaic of emerald and sapphire, its tiny legs scrabbling with an almost frantic energy. Maya blinked, her eye sockets widening in disbelief. A beetle? In her sarcophagus?
