The Heart of the Rift
The Space Hunters enter the Rift of Eternity, where unstable space threatens the ship. Kenny's crystal fragment resonates with a massive space whale that leads them to a hidden nebula. There, a being called the Sentinel reveals that the cosmic nexus is a prison for an ancient evil, and Kenny's mother was its original warden. The crystal fragment is a key to the control room. Vexara is a usurper trying to release the evil. The crew agrees to help the Sentinel, but the assassin from Earth returns, claiming to be Kenny's brother.
The Rift of Eternity looked nothing like the star charts. Where the data promised empty, stable space, the viewport showed a maelstrom of purple and black energy, twisted into spirals that seemed to bend light itself. The ship shuddered as Kranos guided it through the chaos, his hands steady on the controls despite the constant alarms blaring from the console.
"Hold on!" he shouted. "This rift is alive!"
The crystal in Kenny's hands pulsed with a warm, golden light, syncing with his heartbeat. He felt a tug, a direction, pulling him starboard. "Go left!" he yelled. "It wants us to go left!"
