The stone groaned, a sound like the earth itself sighing, and then, with a shudder that sent dust motes dancing in the slivers of light that pierced the gloom, the final section of the wall receded. As it pulsed, I felt a strange resonance within me, a quiet hum that seemed to vibrate in my bones. It was beautiful, profoundly so, and utterly unexpected.
