Chapter 4
First Flight
The moment of truth arrives. Leo and Arthur take their newly restored spaceship for a short, exhilarating test flight, soaring above their familiar town. The thrill of flight ignites their adventurous spirits.
The air in the barn crackled with an energy that had nothing to do with the old wiring Arthur had meticulously checked. It was the hum of anticipation, a silent chord struck between father and son. Leo’s eyes, wide and bright as twin nebulae, were fixed on the gleaming hull of the *Stardust Wanderer*. It wasn't just metal anymore; it was potential, a promise whispered from the stars. Leo practically vibrated. “More than ready, Dad! Let’s go!” He scrambled up the newly installed steps, his heart thrumming a frantic rhythm against his ribs. Inside, the cockpit was a marvel. Arthur had repurposed old fishing boat seats, reupholstered with a sturdy, deep blue fabric that Leo imagined was the color of the deepest space. Dials and switches, once dull and corroded, now winked with Arthur’s careful repairs, their labels painstakingly re-written in Leo’s own bubbly handwriting. The control panel, a patchwork of salvaged electronics, looked like a constellation of its own.
