The late afternoon sun, a gentle, honeyed spill, was Aaron’s cue. It was the kind of light that softened the edges of the world, coaxing out hues of amber and rose from the ordinary. He’d been wandering through the market square, his camera a familiar weight against his hip, not with any specific mission, but simply to breathe in the atmosphere. The usual hum of activity was present – the cheerful calls of stallholders, the murmur of conversations, the distant laughter of children – but Aaron felt a pull towards something quieter, something more profound.

He found himself lingering near Mrs. Gable’s flower stall. Her hands, gnarled with age but surprisingly nimble, were arranging bunches of lavender, their scent a sweet, calming perfume in the air. A young woman, her face etched with a weariness that seemed too heavy for her years, approached the stall. Her purse looked thin, and her eyes scanned the prices with a subtle frown. Aaron, ever observant, noticed the way her shoulders slumped slightly as she pointed to a small posy of daisies.

“Just those, please, Mrs. Gable,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
