The air in the dimly lit dressing room still held the ghost of Anya’s perfume, a delicate blend of rose and something wild, like winter jasmine. Dmitri traced the cold porcelain of her vanity, the scattered brushes and half-used tubes of greasepaint a stark tableau of her abrupt absence. Nickola, his usual boisterous energy muted, sat on the edge of a velvet chaise, his gaze fixed on the ornate mirror that had reflected Anya’s radiant smile countless times. The cryptic clue, that tattered fragment of paper clutched in Dmitri’s hand, had led them down a rabbit hole of hushed conversations and veiled threats. They knew now that Anya hadn’t simply fled; she had unearthed something dangerous, something that had silenced her.
"She wouldn't have gone willingly, Nickola," Dmitri murmured, his voice rough with unshed tears and frustration. "Not without a word. Not without telling me."
Nickola finally stirred, his shoulders slumping. "I know, Dima. This… this feels bigger than we thought. Bigger than Petrov's petty jealousies or Madame Dubois’ ambition. That note… it mentioned 'the serpent's nest.' What could she have meant by that?"
