“You are sure you are well enough, anya?” he asked, his voice a low rumble.

Anya managed a weak smile. “I am… recovering, Nickola. The kindness, the quiet… it is a balm.” She looked around the familiar room, the portraits of their ancestors seeming to watch her with ancient, knowing eyes. The grand theater, with its gilded cages and whispered betrayals, felt like a distant, nightmarish dream. But the memories, sharp and painful, were etched behind her eyelids. The cold grip of the man’s hand, the suffocating darkness, the chilling realization of how close she had come to being silenced forever.
