The air in my studio, usually alive with the scent of turpentine and the hum of my own creative energy, felt thick with an unspoken history, a weight that settled between us like a shroud. Vladislaus stood by the window, the moonlight painting him in stark, ethereal hues, his gaze lost somewhere in the labyrinth of his own endless years. He had spoken of the curse, of the seeking, but the words felt like mere echoes of a truth far more profound, a truth etched into the very fabric of his being.
"They were… fleeting," he began, his voice a low murmur that seemed to resonate from the depths of time. He turned, his eyes, the colour of twilight shadows, finding mine. "Each one a spark, a flame that burned brilliantly, only to be consumed by the inevitable darkness. I sought them, loved them, and then… I lost them."
He walked towards me, his movements fluid, unnervingly graceful. I felt a tremor run through me, not of fear, but of an overwhelming empathy, a shared ache for the losses he carried. He reached out, his fingers, cool as marble, brushing against the back of my hand where I rested it on a half-finished canvas. The touch sent a jolt through me, a recognition that transcended the physical.
