Is there an official NovelAI mobile app? Browser, PWA and look-alike listings

NovelAI’s documentation answers the phone question directly. Here is how to install the web app and how to tell it apart from similarly named store listings.

At a glance

  • NovelAI’s official FAQ says you can access NovelAI through your mobile web browser and install it as a Progressive Web App (PWA) from Chrome or Firefox. It does not point to a native App Store or Google Play app.
  • An App Store listing titled “NovelAI | AI Story Generator” is published by a different developer and is not linked from NovelAI’s documentation. Its account and subscription are separate from novelai.net.
  • To use NovelAI on a phone, open novelai.net in your browser and add it to the home screen. For a native phone app for writing a book with AI, alternatives include AIBookCraft (“AI Book Writer Story Maker” on the App Store, “AI Book Writer Story Generator” on Google Play) and Sudowrite’s companion app.

What NovelAI’s FAQ says about a phone app

NovelAI’s documentation includes the question “Will there be a NovelAI phone application?” Its answer is that you can already access NovelAI through your mobile web browser, and it explains how to install the site as a Progressive Web App: “Install” from the website in Firefox, or “Add to home screen” in Chrome, noting that other mobile browsers may have a similar option.

So the precise answer is that NovelAI on a phone is the web app, optionally installed to your home screen, rather than a native download from an app store.

Is the “NovelAI” app on the App Store official?

On the check date, an App Store listing named “NovelAI | AI Story Generator” existed, with a seller name that is not NovelAI’s, its own weekly, monthly and yearly subscriptions and a feature list (emails, poetry, scripts) that differs from NovelAI’s service. NovelAI’s documentation does not link to it. Treat it as a separate product: a novelai.net subscription does not carry over to it, and it cannot open your novelai.net stories.

The same pattern appears with other well-known writing tools, so the seller check below is worth a minute whenever a search result matches a brand name exactly.

  1. Compare the listing’s seller name with the operator named on the official website.
  2. Look for a link to the listing from the official site or documentation.
  3. If you started a trial by mistake, cancel it from your App Store or Google Play subscriptions; deleting the app does not cancel it.

Other ways to write stories with AI on a phone

NovelAI’s strength is open-ended story generation in its own editor. If you want a native app instead of a browser layout, these are documented options; each suits a different working style.

If you want a native app: AIBookCraft on iPhone and Android

AIBookCraft is an AI-assisted book-writing product from SecondEarth AI, Inc. On the App Store it is listed as “AI Book Writer Story Maker” and on Google Play as “AI Book Writer Story Generator”; both are the AIBookCraft app. The mobile apps support developing an idea, outlining, drafting chapters, creating a cover, public sharing and PDF or DOCX export, with access depending on the plan and action.

The same account opens your books on the web, where a free account supports manual chapter writing and editing and Pro adds AI chapter drafting. It is a different tool with a different workflow, not a mobile version of any other product, and we make no claim that its prose is better. Compare on a short sample of your own.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a NovelAI app on Google Play? NovelAI’s FAQ describes browser and PWA access rather than a store app. If you find a listing with the name, check who publishes it.

Does the NovelAI PWA work offline? The FAQ does not describe offline use; generation runs on NovelAI’s servers, so plan on being online.

Will my NovelAI stories appear in the App Store app called NovelAI? No. That listing is a separate product with its own account.

Which is better on a phone, NovelAI or a native writing app? It depends on whether you want free-form story generation or a chapter-by-chapter book workflow. Try both on the same short scene.
