Jackson must face trials set by the Guardian, testing his courage, resourcefulness, and his understanding of Z Land. Each challenge pushes him to his limits.
The air thrummed with a silent energy, a palpable hum that vibrated in my bones. It was the kind of quiet that wasn’t empty, but full—full of anticipation, of unseen eyes. Elara had warned me. “The Gauntlet,” she’d called it, her voice raspy with a fear I hadn’t fully understood until now. “The Guardian doesn’t just let you walk out, Jackson. It makes you earn it.” Earn it. What did that even mean?
The cavern we’d entered after leaving the Whispering Falls was vast, its ceiling lost in oppressive darkness. Strange, crystalline formations jutted from the walls, reflecting the faint, phosphorescent glow emanating from the ground. It wasn't a natural light; it pulsed, slow and deliberate, like a dying heart. The path ahead dissolved into a shimmering curtain of what looked like solidified mist.
“This is it,” Elara whispered, her hand finding my shoulder. Her touch was a familiar comfort, grounding me in the swirling unease. “The first trial. The Maze of Whispers.”
