Chapter 10
The Sunstone Revealed
The dragons, acknowledging Elara's worthiness, grant them access to the Sunstone. Its radiant glow promises hope and warmth for their troubled realm.
The air in the chamber hummed with a power Elara hadn't felt in what felt like an eternity. It wasn't the frantic, sputtering spark she’d sometimes sensed in the last few weeks, but a deep, resonant thrumming that vibrated in her bones, a melody of magic finally returned. Sunlight, filtering through a high, crystalline aperture in the cavern roof, caught motes of dust dancing in the stillness, illuminating the immense, scaled forms before them. The Elder Dragon, its hide the colour of a twilight sky bruised with amethyst, regarded them with eyes like molten gold, ancient and unreadable. Upon it rested the Sunstone.
It wasn’t a stone in the way Elara had imagined. It pulsed with an inner light, a miniature sun captured and contained, casting a warm, golden effulgence that chased away the cavern’s shadows and, more importantly, the chill of fear that had clung to their realm for so long. The light wasn't harsh or blinding; it was gentle, inviting, like the first rays of dawn on a spring morning. It felt alive, a beacon of pure, untainted hope.
