The Mace of Wonder pulsed faintly in the Warden’s gauntleted hand, its ancient power resonating with the victory. The settlement, battered but unbroken, was safe. For now.

He had arrived a shadow, cloaked in the ghost weave trench coat that seemed to absorb the very light around him, his wraith suit a second skin of advanced technology. He had learned its secrets piece by piece, a thrilling, terrifying process of trial and error. The phase-shifting ability, a desperate gamble against the mercenary’s devastating energy weapon, had been the most profound discovery yet. It had allowed him to slip through their defenses like smoke, a phantom in their meticulously crafted fortress, and confront their commander.

The leader had sneered, their voice a distorted rasp through a vocal modulator. "You think you can stop us, priest? This is bigger than you. Bigger than any settlement." Their words had been laced with a fanaticism that spoke of something more than mere coin. The Warden had felt it then, the same chilling conviction that had guided his father, the same drive that had led him to protect the innocent from forces they couldn't comprehend.
