Chapter 7
Jagged Mountain's Shadow
As the intense cold of the Ancient Ice recedes, another Titan begins to stir: 'Jagged Mountain.' Its awakening causes violent seismic shifts, rockslides, and unpredictable terrain changes that threaten the already fragile Bear Claw. Grizz's territorial instincts clash fiercely with the mountain's raw, untamed power. He feels the mountain's immense, unyielding presence as a direct challenge to his domain. JJ and Bishop work to assess the new geological dangers, while Grizz, torn between his duty to protect and his primal urge to defend his territory, ventures into the treacherous, shifting landscape to understand the Mountain's intent.
The biting wind that had carried the breath of the Ancient Ice began to falter, its reign of frozen fury receding like an ebbing tide. Bear Claw, battered but not broken, exhaled a collective sigh of relief. The unnatural blizzards had ceased, the ice-encased forests slowly began to thaw, and the air, though still frigid, no longer felt like the icy grip of an ancient, indifferent god. But the respite was as fleeting as a sunbeam on a glacier. The Denali region, it seemed, was not yet finished testing its inhabitants. A new tremor, not of the earth, but of something far older, began to ripple through the very stone of the mountains.
Grizz felt it first, a deep, resonant thrumming that vibrated not just through the soles of his worn boots, but through the marrow of his bones. It was a guttural rumble, a groan of immense, slumbering power being disturbed. His Kodiak Bear instincts, still heightened from the prolonged exposure to the Ancient Ice’s influence, recoiled. This was not the passive, elemental chill of the glacier; this was a raw, aggressive assertion of dominance. Jagged Mountain. The name, as old and sharp as the peaks themselves, echoed in the primal recesses of his being.
“Mountain,” he rasped, the word a rough caress against his throat as he stood on the porch of his cabin, gazing east towards the formidable, snow-dusted peaks that clawed at the sky. The recent battle with the Ancient Ice had left him drained, his control frayed, and his Bear side restless. Now, this new presence, this colossal, unyielding force, felt like a direct affront. His territory, his sanctuary, was being challenged by something as ancient and immovable as the earth itself.
