Chapter 4

Whispers of the Titans

JJ delves into the historical records and the mass grave, uncovering disturbing connections between the ancient disappearances and the emergence of primordial beings. She finds fragmented accounts of the 'Titans' – nature spirits of immense power that predate humanity. Grizz's Bear instincts are increasingly amplified by the proximity of the Ancient Ice, making control a daily struggle. He feels the Titan's immense, cold presence pressing in on his territory. Bishop, now fully committed to protecting the region, works with JJ to decipher the lore, seeking a way to counter the elemental threat before it consumes everything. The fractured werewolf pack watches, sensing an opportunity in the chaos.

The air in the Bear Claw archives was thick with the scent of decaying paper and a faint, unsettling chill that had nothing to do with the encroaching winter. JJ ran a gloved hand over a brittle, foxed page, the words blurring under the weak lamplight. She’d spent days sifting through town records, her initial hope of finding a neat historical explanation for the mass grave in the Denali wilderness slowly dissolving into a disquieting tangle of local folklore and cryptic warnings. JJ shook her head, pushing a stray strand of hair behind her ear. “More questions than answers, Bishop. The patterns are there, though. Disappearances cluster around unusually harsh winters, periods of extreme cold, or… odd geological events. And there are these recurring mentions of ‘the deep slumber’ and ‘the awakening.’” She tapped a faded passage in a leather-bound journal. “This one talks about the ‘Great Frost,’ a time when the sun hid its face for moons, and the land itself seemed to breathe ice. It speaks of ancient beings stirring beneath the snow, of the land demanding a price for its silence.”
