Chapter 12

The wind still gnawed at the edges of the world, a persistent, icy whisper that promised winter’s lingering reign. But here, in the heart of the Denali wilderness, something had shifted. The frenzied onslaught of the Ancient Ice had receded, its most potent magic withdrawn like a tide pulling back from the shore, leaving behind a landscape scoured, altered, and profoundly changed. The unseasonal blizzards that had threatened to consume Bear Claw and its surroundings had ceased, replaced by a biting cold that felt more natural, more expected, for this time of year. Grizz sat by the hearth, his massive form a dark silhouette against the flickering flames. He was in his human shape, but the bear was a palpable presence around him, a restless energy contained within the confines of his skin. His gaze was fixed on the dying embers, his thoughts lost in the deep, untamed places only he could navigate.
