The air in the small clearing felt thick, charged with an energy Elara had only begun to recognize. It hummed beneath her skin, a low thrum that resonated with the ancient symbols etched into the forest floor. Ever’s presence was a comforting warmth beside her, a steady anchor in the swirling currents of her apprehension. The ‘Quit Record,’ as Elara had come to think of it, lay open on a moss-covered stone, its pages illuminated by the dappled sunlight filtering through the dense canopy. Today, however, the familiar script seemed to shift, the words taking on a new urgency, a challenge that vibrated in the very air.

"The moon is not yet full," Ever murmured, her voice a gentle ripple against the growing tension. "But the signs are clear. The blight, Elara. It spreads faster than any of us anticipated."

Elara’s gaze followed Ever’s to the edge of the clearing, where the healthy green of the ancient oaks began to fray into a sickly yellow. A creeping decay, invisible to the casual eye, was slowly consuming the lifeblood of their valley. It was a subtle poison, insidious, and it had begun to worry the villagers. Whispers of ill omens and angry spirits had started to circulate, fanned by the growing unease.
