The sun, a lazy smear of molten gold against the bruised evening sky, painted my small apartment in hues of amber and rust. Now, it merely highlighted the dust motes dancing in the stillness, a silent testament to a life that had, somewhere along the way, settled.
I traced the rim of my teacup, the ceramic cool against my fingertips. Outside, the city hummed its familiar, predictable tune – the distant wail of a siren, the rhythmic sigh of traffic. Below me, a vast expanse of stars unfurled, a celestial tapestry so dense it felt as if I could reach out and pluck a constellation.
