Chapter 14
Embracing the Glow
The fear of the unknown, the uncertainty about my own strength, begins to dissipate. The white fire is a constant reminder of my inherent resilience and capacity for growth. I am no longer afraid of the depths. For 8 years, my husband and I accepted one working homeless single mom at a time into our home while we helped her navigate her life back to safe shelter for her family. Fear was never a question or conversation. The only fear was being disobedient to the call of God in the particular moment. Whatsoever you have done to the least of these you have explained done it unto me. Matthew 25:40
The gnawing anxiety that had once clung to me like sea spray, cold and persistent, began to recede. It was a gradual shift, like the tide turning imperceptibly, yet its effect was profound. For so long, the dream had been a harbinger of dread, a vivid tableau of uncontrollable forces that left me feeling small and exposed. The storm, with its furious winds and churning waves, mirrored the internal tempests I’d often navigated, the feeling of being tossed about by circumstances beyond my grasp. And then, the white fire. Always the white fire, blazing with an impossible brilliance on the surface of the tempestuous ocean, refusing to be extinguished by the very element meant to consume it. It was beautiful, yes, but terrifying in its defiance of nature’s laws.
My husband, bless his steady heart, had listened patiently to my descriptions, his brow furrowed with concern, but ultimately, the mystery was mine to unravel. He offered comfort, a grounding presence, but the dream’s language was spoken solely to me. I’d spent countless hours poring over books, meditating, journaling, seeking any clue, any whisper that might illuminate its meaning. Was it a warning? A prophecy? Or simply the fevered imaginings of a sleep-deprived mind?
The shift began subtly, not with a thunderclap or a blinding flash, but with a quiet recognition. It happened during one of those restless nights, the dream unfolding with its familiar intensity. I was there, on the precipice of the storm, the spray stinging my face, the roar of the wind in my ears. But this time, instead of recoiling, I found myself drawn to the white fire. I watched it, not as an outsider observing a phenomenon, but as if I were somehow connected to its essence. The flames danced, vibrant and alive, and a strange sense of peace settled over me. The ocean, so vast and powerful, raged around it, its waves crashing, trying to quench the inferno, but failing. And in that moment, a realization dawned, soft and warm as the first rays of morning sun. The fire wasn't destructive. It was pure energy. It was a testament to something that could not be extinguished, something that transcended the chaos and the limitations of the natural world.
