Chapter 4
Elara's Enigmatic Tales
Alex questions Elara about the journal. She shares cryptic stories of local legends and ancient guardians, her words veiled in metaphor, guiding Alex without revealing the full truth, trusting their discovery.
The scent of dried lavender and old paper still clung to Alex’s clothes, a faint perfume of the attic’s secrets. Descending the creaking stairs, each step a hesitant echo of the discoveries made, Alex felt a shift in the air, a new gravity settling around them. Elara turned, her eyes, the color of moss after rain, crinkling at the corners. She took the journal, her touch reverent, as if handling a fragile bird. “Ah, the old wanderer’s log,” she murmured, her voice a low hum. “It has been a long time since these pages have seen the light.” She didn’t open it, though, her gaze fixed on Alex, a question lingering in their depths.
