Chapter 12
The Guardian's Test
A final puzzle guards the path forward, seemingly designed to test the seeker's worthiness. Alex must combine knowledge from the journal, the map, and Elara's tales to overcome it.
The air in the ancient chamber was thick with the scent of damp earth and something else, something like old paper and forgotten sunlight. Alex’s breath hitched, a small sound swallowed by the vastness of the cavern. Before them, etched into the very rock face, was a series of intricate carvings. This, Alex realized with a jolt, was the test. Not a brute force obstacle, but a puzzle, a guardian’s trial. The carvings depicted a sequence of celestial bodies – a crescent moon, a blazing sun, a scattering of stars, and a solitary, watchful owl. Beneath them, a series of smaller symbols, almost like a primitive alphabet, were arranged in a seemingly chaotic order.
