Flicker, a shimmering speck of emerald light, darted ahead, a playful scout, while Grumble lumbered along, a silent, dependable bulwark, his rocky form blending seamlessly with the uneven terrain.

They were Elias and his companions, a name whispered with a mixture of awe and gratitude in villages they had passed, in towns they had aided. The legend of the unbound mage, the one with the eyes that saw all, had begun to weave itself into the fabric of the land, a tapestry of courage and compassion.

Their current destination was a small, isolated settlement nestled in the foothills of the Serpent’s Tooth mountains, a place Elias had “seen” in a fleeting, yet potent, vision. A blight, not of the soil, but of the spirit, had taken hold. Fear, a gnawing, insidious thing, had begun to sap the life from the villagers. Whispers spoke of a shadow that crept from the ancient ruins overlooking the valley, a shadow that stole dreams and left behind only despair.
