The air in the Dagger Clan's deepest archives was thick with the dust of ages, a scent that clung to Shulk's nostrils like a second skin. It was a smell he knew well, a comforting aroma of forgotten battles, whispered treaties, and the silent, watchful presence of history. He ran a gloved hand over a massive, leather-bound tome, its surface cracked and worn, the gold leaf on its spine long since faded into obscurity. This was not the Dagger Clan's public face, not the gleaming steel and sharp edges that the other realms saw. This was the heart, the memory, the very soul of their power, hidden away from prying eyes and greedy hands.

He needed answers, and the archives were the only place to find them.

His fingers, calloused from years of wielding daggers and shaping raw power, traced the intricate carvings on the spine of another book. This one was bound in what felt like hardened dragon scale, its weight substantial enough to anchor a small ship. He pulled it from its resting place, the movement stirring motes of dust into a dancing ballet in the dim light filtering from the enchanted orbs lining the cavernous room.
