I’d been watching it from my usual corner booth at “The Steeped Leaf,” the scent of roasted beans and old paper a comforting blanket. My fingers traced the worn edge of the table, a familiar ritual that usually preceded a dive into the intricate planning of my next… acquisition. But lately, my thoughts weren’t on glittering jewels or well-guarded coffers. They were on a prince.

Prince Aerion. The name itself was a whisper of silk and moonlight, a stark contrast to the rough edges of my own life. He’d become a fixture in my quiet corner, a silent shadow seeking solace in the same anonymous warmth I craved. And with each shared glance, each hushed conversation, something within me had shifted, like a loose stone finally finding its place.

Today, however, was different. The air in the cafe hummed with an unspoken tension, a prelude to a storm of a different kind. I’d seen him arrive, his usual carefully constructed composure strained, his eyes holding a familiar flicker of unease. He’d taken his usual seat by the window, but instead of his customary worn leather-bound book, his hands were clasped tightly in his lap, his gaze fixed on the street outside as if searching for an escape route.
