The air in the town square buzzed, not with the usual sleepy hum of a Saturday afternoon, but with a peculiar, almost electric energy. Lily, clutching the now-familiar locket, felt it thrumming against her palm. It had led her here, to the annual "Most Boring Bake Sale," a title it wore with a peculiar sort of pride. The long tables were laden with cakes that sagged like weary old men, cookies that looked suspiciously like petrified pebbles, and pies that seemed to have lost the will to hold their fillings. A collective sigh seemed to emanate from the very bunting strung between lampposts.

“Right then, Nutsy,” Lily whispered, trying to sound braver than she felt. “The locket says the final memory is… *somewhere* ‘under the shadow of a sugary mountain, where frosting dreams begin and end.’”

Nutsy, perched on a nearby lamppost, flicked his tail indignantly. “Sugary mountain? Frosting dreams? Sounds like a recipe for a stomach ache, if you ask me. And why am I always dragged into these human shenanigans? My paws are made for digging, not for… for *sampling* these sad excuses for baked goods.” He eyed a particularly uninspiring loaf of bread with undisguised disdain. “Looks like it’s been baked by an old boot.”
