Chapter 9
A Lieutenant's Doubt
Victor, Xavier's loyal lieutenant, grows suspicious of his boss's actions. Lily is seen as a weakness, a complication. Victor's ambition begins to stir, questioning Xavier's commitment to their world.

His silence was a familiar cloak, often hiding depths Victor couldn’t fathom, but tonight, it felt like a deliberate evasion.
“And if there were complications?” Xavier finally said, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through the room. He didn’t turn, his profile silhouetted against the dazzling panorama of lights.
