The air in Xavier’s private study was thick with the scent of aged leather and unspoken threats. Moonlight, fractured by the intricate ironwork of the window grates, cast long, skeletal shadows across the polished mahogany desk. Xavier, a figure carved from granite and shadow, stood by the window, his back to Victor, his lieutenant. The silence between them hummed with a tension that had nothing to do with the usual machinations of their empire. This was personal.
"You said it was confirmed?" Xavier's voice was a low rumble, devoid of inflection, yet it carried the weight of a thousand unspoken orders.
Victor shifted his weight, his gaze darting to the framed photographs on the desk – stark portraits of Xavier, always alone, always in control. “The intel is solid, boss. Victor’s men intercepted communications. It’s coming from within. A faction that believes… that believes the Arkin girl is a liability. A distraction.”
