Xavier stood at the center of the cavernous space, a monolith of obsidian resolve. His gaze swept over the faces of his men, a grim tableau of loyalty and apprehension. Beside him, Lily was a beacon of defiant grace, her hand clasped tightly in his, a silent promise exchanged between their intertwined fingers. The storm outside mirrored the tempest raging within these walls.

Victor, his face a mask of barely concealed fury, stood opposite them, flanked by a contingent of Xavier’s most trusted, yet now, most disloyal, men. The glint of steel was a constant undercurrent in the dim light, reflecting the cold, hard truth of their predicament. Zade Arkin, Lily’s father, was a phantom presence, his influence a palpable weight in the room; he had made his intentions clear, and Victor, ever the opportunist, had seized the moment.

“This ends now, Xavier,” Victor’s voice was a low growl, laced with the venom of perceived betrayal. “You’ve grown soft. You let a woman, an Arkin, cloud your judgment. This is a weakness the organization cannot afford.”
