Chapter 18
Victor's Gambit
Victor makes his move, attempting to seize control and eliminate Xavier. His ambition blinds him to the true strength of Xavier and Lily's bond.
The air in the abandoned warehouse hung thick and cold, smelling of dust and decay. Victor surveyed the scene, his gaze sharp, assessing the scattered crates and the skeletal remains of forgotten machinery. This was it. His moment. Xavier, blinded by some foolish infatuation, had grown weak. He’d allowed sentiment to cloud his judgment, a cardinal sin in their world. Victor, however, was made of sterner stuff. He understood the currency of power, the absolute necessity of ruthlessness.

Whispers of Xavier’s distraction, his perceived softness, had been carefully planted, nurtured, and allowed to bloom into a fertile ground for dissent.
“He’s coming,” Victor said, his voice a low growl that echoed in the cavernous space. “Xavier and the girl. They think they’re safe here. They think they can hide from the world.” He spat the words out, a bitter taste in his mouth. “They’re wrong.”
