The guttural roar that echoed through the house was unlike anything I had ever heard, a sound that seemed to claw at the very air we breathed. It was the sound of pure, unadulterated rage, a primal scream of defiance against Father Michael’s unyielding prayers. The walls, which had only moments before been vibrating with a disquieting tremor, now seemed to writhe and groan as if under immense, unseen pressure. Dust, thick and ancient, rained down from the ceiling in a suffocating cloud, and the remaining candles, our only source of light, were snuffed out one by one, plunging the living room into a suffocating, inky blackness. Only a faint, spectral glow from the hallway offered any respite from the oppressive dark.

I could feel it, a tangible weight pressing in from all sides, a suffocating blanket of pure malevolence. It was angry, seething with a power that felt ancient and boundless. It was fighting back, not with physical force, but with an assault on our very senses, on our sanity. The whisper I had heard earlier, the chilling command to “leave,” had escalated into a cacophony of disembodied voices, a swirling vortex of accusations and threats that clawed at the edges of my mind.

“It’s testing us,” Father Michael grunted, his voice strained, each word a battle cry against the unseen storm. Another violent tremor shook the house, rattling the windowpanes with renewed ferocity. “It wants us to falter. To give up.”
