The brittle pages of the diary crackled under Tyler’s trembling fingers, each whisper of aged paper a prelude to the dread unfurling within him. The script was spidery, inconsistent, as if written by a hand both urgent and unsteady. He’d found it tucked away in a loose floorboard beneath the grand, dusty armchair in the library, a space he’d repeatedly scoured since Mina’s vanishing. The air in his small room, usually a sanctuary, now felt thick with a palpable oppression, as if the very walls of Blackwood Manor were exhaling a chilling miasma. He traced a passage, the ink faded but the meaning stark and terrifying.

*“They came, uninvited, their laughter a desecration, their presence a violation. The pact was broken before it was even forged anew. The slumber disturbed, the hunger awakened. It demands… it always demands.”*

Tyler’s breath hitched. The words swam before his eyes, coalescing into a horrifying tableau. This wasn’t some old, creaky house with a few drafts and an overactive imagination. This was something ancient, something hungry, and they, the Sterlings, had stumbled right into its maw. The diary spoke of a woman, Elara, who had lived here centuries ago, a woman wronged, betrayed, and left to die within these very walls. Her grief, her rage, had festered, binding itself to the stone and timber, waiting. Waiting for what? For a family to move in, to fill the silence with the vibrant pulse of life that she had been denied.
