Chapter 20
Whispers of Eternity
The aftermath. Whether Thea has found freedom or succumbed to the manor's dark magic, her life is forever changed. The whispers from the grave have either silenced her or become her eternal song.
The silence was the first thing Thea noticed. Not the absence of sound, but a profound, ringing quietude that pressed in on her eardrums, a stark contrast to the tempest that had raged within her. The air, once thick with the scent of ozone and something anciently floral, now tasted like dust and forgotten dreams. She lay on the cold, polished stone floor, her limbs heavy, her body an alien landscape of lingering sensations. The ritual. It had happened. But what had happened?
Her mind felt like a shattered mirror, reflecting fragmented images: the blinding light, the sorcerer’s face contorted in a silent scream, her mother’s spectral hand reaching out, and then… nothing. A void. She pushed herself up, her muscles protesting with a dull ache. The grand hall of Blackwood Manor was as she’d left it, yet irrevocably altered. The tapestries seemed to writhe with a new intensity, the shadows pooling in the corners felt deeper, more sentient.
She was alone. Or was she? The constant hum that had vibrated beneath her skin during the ritual had receded, leaving a hollow echo. It was the echo of him. The sorcerer. Elias. His presence was a phantom limb, an ache where something vital had once been. Had she succeeded? Had she broken free, or had she finally, irrevocably, become his?
