Thea stood on the threshold, the ancient stones of Blackwood Manor cool beneath her bare feet. The air thrummed with an unspoken tension, a tangible force that coiled around her like a serpent. This was it. The crossroads her mother’s fragmented journal had spoken of, the precipice from which there was no easy return. To her left, the path shimmered with the pale, ethereal light of a life she might reclaim, a life stripped of the suffocating presence that had become as familiar as her own heartbeat. To her right, a deeper darkness beckoned, a seductive abyss that promised power, belonging, and a love that was as terrifying as it was intoxicating.

The spectral entity, a constellation of moonlight and shadow, materialized beside her. His form, once a tormenting blur, now held a disturbing clarity, a tangible solidity that belied his incorporeal nature. His eyes, the colour of a storm-tossed sea, fixed on her, a possessive hunger burning within their depths. "Thea," his voice, a silken caress that vibrated through her very bones, whispered her name. "You see it now, don't you? The choice. The only choice that truly matters."

She flinched, not from fear, but from the overwhelming intensity of his gaze. It felt as though he could see into the deepest recesses of her soul, dissecting her grief, her burgeoning desires, her desperate need for solace. "I… I don't understand," she stammered, her voice barely a breath. "What is this choice?"
