The rain hammered against Anya’s windshield, each drop a tiny, insistent fist against the glass, mirroring the pounding in her own temples. The porch groaned a protest as she stepped onto it, the wood rotten and treacherous. The front door, a heavy slab of dark oak, was ajar, revealing a sliver of absolute blackness within. No doorbell. No knocker. Just the gaping maw of the house, inviting or threatening, she couldn’t tell.
