The air, thick with the scent of decay and something acrid, clung to Anya’s skin like a shroud. Her lungs burned with each ragged breath, a stark contrast to the crisp Seattle rain she’d left behind. This was not Seattle. This was a nightmare rendered in shades of bruised purple and arterial red. The sky above wasn’t blue; it was a churning, bruised canvas, streaked with veins of a viscous, crimson light that pulsed like a dying heart. The ground beneath her boots was not asphalt, but a spongy, yielding substance that squelched with every step, a morbid symphony accompanying her every move.

She’d stumbled through the gate, a disorienting tumble of sensations – the deafening roar, the blinding flash of scarlet, the sickening lurch of her stomach – and found herself here. Alone. The landscape was a grotesque mockery of life. Twisted, skeletal trees clawed at the sickly sky, their branches adorned with what looked like petrified organs. Strange, bioluminescent fungi pulsed with a faint, sickly glow, casting eerie shadows that danced and writhed like sentient things. The silence here was profound, broken only by the squelching of her boots and a distant, guttural sigh that sent a tremor of unease down her spine.
