Sealing the Crimson Gate

With the Weaver defeated and the gate weakening, Anya and Silas enact the final sealing ritual. The crimson light flickers and dies, severing the connection between the worlds.

The air in the chamber crackled, thick with the residue of violence and the acrid tang of ozone. Anya, her body a symphony of aches and burns, watched as the Crimson Weaver’s form dissolved into a swirling vortex of shadow and fractured light. The grotesque silhouette that had haunted her nightmares, the architect of so much death, was no more. But the victory felt hollow, a brief respite in a war far from over. The crimson gate, a gaping wound in reality, pulsed with a malevolent energy, its edges fraying like burnt cloth. It was still too open, too hungry.

Silas, his face a mask of grim determination, knelt beside a crudely drawn circle of symbols etched into the obsidian floor. His hands, usually trembling, were steady as he carefully placed a shard of obsidian, pulsating with a faint inner fire, at each cardinal point of the circle. Anya pushed herself to her feet, the phantom weight of her fallen comrades a heavy cloak on her shoulders. She could still feel them, their final moments replaying like a broken record in the recesses of her mind. This had to end.

“Is it done?” Anya’s voice was raspy, a stranger’s voice in her own ears. She gripped the hilt of her service pistol, the familiar weight a small comfort in this alien landscape.
