The air in the Weaver’s domain was thick, a cloying miasma that clung to Anya’s lungs with every ragged breath. It tasted of ozone and decay, a scent that had become sickeningly familiar since she’d stumbled through the crimson gate. Her knuckles were white where she gripped the hilt of the crudely fashioned blade Silas had pressed into her hand, its metal humming with a faint, alien energy. The Weaver. The architect of this nightmare, the source of the crimson stains that had bled into her world.

She saw it then, a flicker of movement in the periphery, a shadow detaching itself from the perpetual twilight. It flowed, rather than walked, its form indistinct, shifting like smoke. The Crimson Weaver. It was more terrifying now, in its own realm, than it had ever appeared on the rain-slicked streets of Seattle. The whispers that had haunted her investigation had coalesced into a tangible presence, a malevolent consciousness that pulsed with raw, predatory hunger.

“You persist,” a voice slithered into her mind, not through her ears, but directly into the core of her being. It was a symphony of discordant notes, a chorus of suffering and delight. “Such a small thing, clinging to life with such ferocity.”
