Chapter 15
A Choice Between Worlds
The Weaver offers Anya a terrible choice: sacrifice someone from her world to save herself, or face the complete merging of dimensions. Anya refuses to yield, her determination hardening.
The air in the Weaver’s domain was thick, viscous, and tasted of decay. Anya choked on it, her lungs burning with each ragged breath. Before her, suspended in the swirling, perpetual dusk, was the Crimson Weaver. It was less a being and more a tapestry of nightmares woven from shadows and the screams of the lost. Tendrils of crimson light pulsed around it, mirroring the unnatural glow of the gate that now pulsed behind Anya, a gaping wound in reality.
“You persist,” the Weaver’s voice slithered into her mind, a thousand whispers coalescing into a single, chilling pronouncement. It offered no true sound, no vibration of air, just a direct assault on her consciousness. “Foolish, fragile thing. You stand on the precipice of oblivion, and still you cling to your pathetic attachments.”
Anya’s hand tightened around the cold, unfamiliar hilt of the obsidian dagger Silas had pressed into her palm. It hummed with a faint, unsettling energy, a stark contrast to the primal fear coiling in her gut. She remembered Silas’s frantic instructions, the desperate plea in his ancient eyes. *“It feeds on choice, Anya. On sacrifice. It offers a path, always, but never a good one.”*
