The world was a fog, a soft, persistent veil that clung to everything, blurring edges and muffling sounds. Days bled into one another, each one a hesitant step into the unknown. I knew faces, flashes of recognition that flickered like faulty bulbs, but names often eluded me, slipping through my grasp like grains of sand. There were moments of profound disorientation, standing in rooms I vaguely recalled, surrounded by people who spoke of a shared history I couldn't access. It was like being a ghost in my own life, observing a story I was supposed to be living but had no memory of writing.

Then there were the anchors. They appeared when I was adrift, their presence a steadying force in the turbulent sea of my amnesia. They didn't demand explanations, didn't recoil from the vacant stare that sometimes met theirs. Instead, they offered quiet understanding, a gentle hand on my arm, a patient retelling of who I was, or at least, who I had been.

One of these anchors was Amy. Her name, when it finally settled into my consciousness, felt like a familiar melody. She had a way of looking at me, a depth in her eyes that seemed to hold a thousand unspoken stories. She would talk about art, about music, about a life I vaguely sensed was mine, but which felt like a dream I could no longer recall.
