Chapter 9
Adugna's Confession
Fikadu's quest prompts a deeper conversation with his father. Adugna, seeing Fikadu's resolve, finally shares the full story, revealing the extent of Bizunesh's risks and their family's role.
The air in Adugna’s small, sun-drenched living room felt thicker than usual, charged with an unspoken anticipation that settled over Fikadu like a warm, familiar blanket. He sat opposite his father, the worn cushion beneath him a testament to years of shared stories, quiet contemplation, and now, a profound, unfolding truth. He had spoken of his wife, Bizunesh, with a reverence that hinted at a love that transcended mere memory, a love intertwined with a respect that bordered on awe. Now, Fikadu knew why.
“Father,” Fikadu began, his voice steady despite the tremor of emotion that threatened to betray him. “I have been reading Mama’s writings. The journals… the letters.” He paused, letting the words hang in the air, a gentle probe into the well of his father’s guarded heart. “She was… she was involved in something significant, wasn’t she?”
