The air in Oakhaven had always been thick with the scent of pine and damp earth, a comforting aroma that clung to the very stones of our homes. But now, it was a cloying, suffocating blanket, laced with something acrid and alien. It began subtly, as all true terrors do. Even the sturdiest of men found themselves glancing nervously over their shoulders, their usual boisterous laughter replaced by hushed, anxious murmurs.
