Old Man Hemlock shares a fragment of his past, revealing he too once glimpsed the grimoire's power, reinforcing Elara's path and the importance of her role.
The air in Old Man Hemlock’s cottage was always thick with the comforting scent of dried herbs and woodsmoke, a palpable warmth that seemed to seep into Elara’s very bones. Today, however, a different kind of warmth bloomed within her, a quiet confidence that had taken root after the recent, exhilarating mastery of the core incantation. She sat across from him, the worn wooden table between them a familiar landscape of shared silences and gentle pronouncements. The grimoire, now a cherished companion, lay closed on her lap, its secrets no longer entirely alien.
Hemlock, his face a roadmap of benevolent wrinkles, stirred his tea with a gnarled finger. Sunlight, fractured by the leaded panes of his window, painted dancing motes of dust in the air, each one a tiny universe in itself. He watched Elara with eyes that held the depth of ancient forests, a knowing glint dancing within them.
“You’ve been walking a new path, Elara,” he said, his voice a soft rumble like distant thunder. “I see it in the way you carry yourself, in the stillness that settles around you.”
