Horror dawned on Sarah's face as the reality of Elias's fate washed over her. The vibrant energy of the prom night was extinguished, replaced by the chilling realization of their role in his tragic end.

The air in the room hung thick and cloying, a strange perfume of stale celebration and something else, something heavy and suffocating. Sarah’s laughter, so bright moments before, felt like shattered glass in her throat. Her friends, a constellation of sequined dresses and flushed cheeks, clustered around her, their usual boisterous energy muted, replaced by a growing unease. They had sought a quiet escape from the pulsing heart of the prom, a secret whispered between friends, a moment to shed the veneer of gaiety and indulge in the delicious gossip that fueled their young lives. And then, they had found him.

Elias.

He was sprawled on the floor, a marionette whose strings had been cruelly severed. His eyes, usually wide with a perpetual, almost startled curiosity, were now vacant, staring at a ceiling that offered no answers. The vibrant colours of his shirt seemed to mock the pallor of his skin, a stark canvas against the worn Persian rug. Beside him, a small, dark glass bottle lay on its side, a silent sentinel, its contents spilled like a dark secret onto the wood.
